REFRACTED LIGHT SERIES -SMALL
Refracted Light Series
by Lua Brice
The Refracted Light series by Lua Brice is a innovative body of work that explores the phenomenon of structural color through an innovative, pigment-free process. Rather than using traditional paint, Brice “paints” with electricity on titanium plates, creating microcrystalline structures that interact with light to produce vivid, refracted hues—similar to the iridescent shimmer seen in butterfly wings.
Each piece in the series is entirely handcrafted and emerges through a slow, durational process where time, not voltage, becomes the primary medium. Through a steady, meditative gesture, Brice fosters the gradual growth of crystals across the metal surface, resulting in a subtle yet luminous build-up of color.
This highly focused technique requires deep concentration and patience, with every work embodying both the visual beauty of light-based color and the quiet intensity of its making. The Refracted Light series emerged from the artist’s dedication to material innovation, spiritual presence, and the poetic potential of light itself.
